Fastum:
A New company website
Web Developer (Summer Internship), 2023

Description
During a summer internship at Fastum, I was tasked with redesigning the company’s website from the ground up, from initial design concepts to a fully functional, SEO-optimized WordPress site.
Starting with a very limited amount of WordPress experience, I worked closely with the project manager in the beginning to turn their vision into a live product. After a while I got more comfortable and worked more independently. Me and the project manager still har close communication and usually at the end of the workday we sat down to assess what I had been doing, give feedback and what to focus on the coming day.

Website Design
Since the target audience skewed older, every design choice prioritized clarity over trendiness:
- Larger, high-contrast typography for readability
- Simplified navigation with clear labeling
- Minimalist layout to reduce cognitive load
- Custom CSS to fine-tune spacing, hierarchy, and visual consistency across pages
- Full responsiveness for all devices
simplified navigation
The navigation was restructured and streamlined to clearly present all available services while minimizing user confusion with an overload of options. Since customer service (Kundservice) and portal login (Logga in) were identified as the two most frequently used features, they were given dedicated, persistent buttons in the site header to ensure quick access from anywhere on the site.

Old navigation (21 options)

Other designs
1.
The “Offert” (quote request) feature was elevated from a simple navigation link to its own element in the hero header, encouraging more spontaneous quote requests, particularly from potential new customers.

2.
Redesigned the footer with a clearer structure and improved readability, making key information easier for visitors to find.

3.
A button that scrolls the page back to the top so that the user can easily access the main menu again without scrolling all the way back up.

Outcome
This project was my first hands-on experience taking a company website from concept to launch. I learned to:
- Pick up new tools quickly under real deadlines (WordPress, in this case)
- Design with a specific audience in mind rather than generic “best practices”
- Balance aesthetics with technical constraints like SEO and performance
- Document and communicate my progress to others
- Integrate GDPR-compliant cookie consent
